UPDATE: TASTING ROOM COMING IN EARLY 2018 : CLICK HERE TO GET E-MAIL UPDATES
We’ve received multiple inquiries about the brewery and how we’ve setup to operate. This page is here to give a peak at our mindset for this project! Thank you for the interest in 8one8 Brewing and if you have any questions please reach out to us!
Why a Nano Brewery? We’ve been brewing for a little over 3 years. Our first home brew batch was brewed on June 23, 2012 after we attended a Maltose Falcons class on “how to brew” at the home brew shop in Woodland Hills, CA. We’ve gone from a 5 gallon extract kit batch on a turkey fryer setup, to a 10 gallon brutus setup in August 2012 to a 1 barrel (30 gallon) system in March 2014. With our experience, learning curve and up front capital available the nano size just made sense to continue on our journey and take this idea to the next level. We also like the flexibility of the nano size to explore creative recipes in the future.
Not open to the public? The initial plan was to open with a small tasting room. During our research it just made sense to start production only. Some of the road blocks include the extra space required for dual ADA compliant bathrooms, extra city permits and planning required and also increased regulations from the ABC and TTB to get up and running. Starting production only allows us to focus on the beer and release a quality product to market without the initial stressors of a retail location.
Why the valley with all the City of LA restrictions? Well this is where we’re from and we have a lot of pride in the SFV. Bryan was raised in Reseda and lives in Winnetka now. Derrick was raised in Sylmar and still lives in Sylmar. We’re honored to be the first brewery to open in Canoga Park, CA
What goes into our beer? Water -> Barley -> Hops -> Yeast and Passion
How will the beer be sold? To start off we will kegging beer in 5.2 gal. (1/6bbl) & 15.5 gal. (1/2 bbl) for local distribution in bars and restaurants. Other sizes planned to release will be in the 22oz-64oz range … stay tuned!
The overall mindset of our build out: To build the brewery as quickly and most cost effectively as possible, while also keeping growth in mind. We’re opening as a 3 bbl brew house but we have the fermenting space of 7bbl per batch and also the framework of our location can handle a 7-10 bbl brew house if we’re lucky enough to grow!
As of 8.18.15 we’re approved! We will be ramping up production and beer will be released as it becomes available. Stay tuned to our site and social media outlets for updates on where we end up on tap! Thanks for the patience and we’re looking for a steady flow of beer to be cranking out of the brewery soon! Here’s what you can expect from the local family owned small batch brew kettles over at 8one8 Brewing:
BELGIAN GOLDEN STRONG ALE
We’re excited as we start our journey to create our story in the San Fernando Valley as 8one8 Brewing!
Thanks for all the support! Bryan and Derrick
We’ve created merchandise for the brewery. The sales from these products goes directly to the efforts to open the tasting room.
Thanks for the support and representing the 8one8 brand!
